and on another note...

Chick'n Cordon Bleu

What will they think of next?

chef jesse

In case this marketing thing doesn't work out I'm exploring other career options. It's doubtful that the whole photography thing will pan out. And this blog isn't paying my mortgage (yet). So i'm gearing up for the next Top Chef.

And so - Polenta Pot Pie.

i've officially taken the camera off auto

a little post-dinner kitchen dancing

clamshell to pedestal

Thom replaced the outdated blue clamshell sink with a simple pedestal. He's also replaced the medicine cabinet and light. Once this bathroom is done we'll be showering here and moving on to redoing the bathroom upstairs.

the bathroom continues

This week Thom painted the garden level bathroom. Sorry, I don't have any "before" pictures but it used to be painted a deep teal - making the already narrow room feeling more cramped than necessary.

The white paint makes the bathroom feel much cleaner and spacious.

We've been taking a little hiatus lately to enjoy the house in the state it's in (wreck or not) and we've had a bunch of visitors, dinner parties, etc. Mostly I think we're just intimidated by the size and cost of the next project (the den) so we're slowly mulling over our options.

But this week - while I've been busy experimenting with my new camera and going to work (Thom's forgotten what that's like) - Thom decided it was time to attack a few projects around the house. And I couldn't be more overjoyed.

It's time we have some fancier bathrooms around here. And by "fancy" I mean - with working drains and mirrors. I've spent the last 6 months peering at myself in a little shaving mirror. I'm not sure what will become of me if I can actually see my whole face in the morning - I might not actually make it to work...

Thom's at Lowe's right now picking up a pedestal sink for the downstairs bathroom and a mirror for the main bathroom.

The weather is still miserable here but we headed out into the bitter cold anyhow on Saturday. Yummy food and good company made it all worth it.

braving the streets of chinatown

Mark picked up a scarf on the way to vegetarian dim sum (100% cashmere). Ha.

if it's not the superbowl, it's something else

Sometimes getting Thom to leave the house isn't easy - especially when there's an Arsenal game on.

new to us

Adding to our collection - some items that were given to us by Sally & Jerry. (That's an old iron - in case you're wondering.)
Unwrapping my birthday present from Susan & Mark...

My new set of Lotus Bowls settles into the kitchen...

let the celebrating begin

With Mark visiting this weekend we celebrated getting older just a bit early.

one super bowl

7 layer dip
Mango Margaritas
Blue Margaritas
Don't ask me what happened during the game (although I did see that guy catch a ball) but we had lots of yummy food and drink. Mmm, cheese balls.

In case you're wondering, Thom had his own super bowl this Sunday - his soccer team won the league. And he even got a snazzy medal.
Just wanted to share this new catch all dish that I got for the kitchen.

my second career

Proving I could be a bartender if this whole marketing thing doesn't work out - a made a truly superior lychee martini this weekend. To be honest, I made 5 fantastic lychee martinis. Yum.
